Attention Excalibur

On Muir Island, Kitty Pryde watched the TV as the X-Men sacrifice their lives. She informs Moira MacTaggert, and Nightcrawler, just awakened from his come, of the bad news. However high above in her Citadel, Roma draws the X-Men’s essences from the tomb and recreates them. She tells them that chaos is needed in the universe, so the Adversary should not be locked away forever. Roma thanks the team for their heroism and tells them she could send them where- and whenever they want. The X-Men decide to let the world believe them dead, so that their friends and families are no longer in danger of being attacked by their enemies.

In this time both Nightcrawler and Shadowcat is still in Europe and they thought all their friends were killed. And find refuge in organizing the Excalibur with Captain Britain.

The X-Men finally found out that there was a way to defeat the Adversary: a spell to counter the one Forge cast many years ago, which had freed the Adversary in the first place – but it needed nine souls to give it energy. The eight X-Men and their companion, Madelyne Pryor, sacrificed themselves to Forge’s spell on live TV to banish the Adversary.

However, Roma then used her great powers to return the X-Men and Pryor to life Rome explained that the Adversary must not be thus confined forever, since through the chaos he brings can come positive change and growth However, she said, the Adversary had indeed been "bound for an age" by Forge's spell. Whether or not the Adversary does indeed stay confined remains to be seen.

After a bank robbery in Hong Kong the X-Men fight and defeat the Reavers and claim their headquarters in the Australian outback as their own.

Roma gives the X-Men the Siege Perilous and also reveals that since their resurrections they are invisible to anything but the naked eye.

Forge, however, wasn’t aware of this and walked away; Mystique’s accusation of “murderer” ringing in the air.

Both Forge and Freedom Force stuck around in Dallas for some time after that. Illyana Rasputin, Colossus’ sister, became consumed by the grief for her brother and her friends and eventually teleported to Dallas to kill Forge, followed by her fellow New Mutants, who were trying to talk sense into her.

She found Forge accompanied by Freedom Force and it took her some time to realize that this was Mystique in disguise. Destiny had warned them of Illyana’s coming and feared Illyana’s deeds here would eventually lead to her becoming Earth’s destroyer (a hint of the Inferno to come). The real Forge eventually confronted her and, unable to beat his sorcery on Earth, she teleported both of them to her magical domain Limbo, where she was sorceress supreme. There, they used magic to fight each other. As Forge realized the reason for her anger, he lowered his defenses, urging her to strike him and send him to join the woman he loved in death. Illyana struck him once with her Soulsword but, at the last moment, she found she couldn’t murder him, realizing that this act would totally condemn her. She asked how he knew that she wouldn’t kill him. He didn’t, but he figured that she had friends who thought she was worth it. Illyana sent him back to Earth, telling him he didn’t deserve to be with the (dead) Storm and other X-Men.

Australian Outback Continues

Meanwhile, in the Hollywood Mall in Los Angeles a young teenager calling herself Jubilee uses her mutant powers to generate light and small fireworks to entertain mall patrons for money. The mall security notices the young performer and attempts to apprehend her. After an unsuccessful attempt, they decide to call a group of mutant hunters called the “M Squad” to solve the problem for them.

While In Australia, Rogue causes friction with her teammates because of her rage at sharing a mind with Carol Danvers. Carol is forced to resume control when the tension rises to a breaking point. Dazzler suggests that tensions could be eased with some fun and shopping.

They found a new ally with Gateway an Australian Aborigine, who is also a mutant that is capable of teleportation. He became a friend of Rogue.

Gateway transports Storm, Rogue, Psylocke and Dazzler to the Hollywood Mall in LA where they are noticed by the young Jubilee. After a few hours of shopping the group notices the commotion of the arriving M squad. After dispatching the Squad, and their Inferno enhanced equipment, the four X-ladies return through Gateway's portal, unaware that the young Jubilee has followed them. After How many days, they adopted Jubilee and the child is very eager to be come one of the X-Men.

Jubilee (Jubilation Lee), a Chinese-American teenage "mall rat" who produced plasma "fireworks" from her finger tips

In deep space, a group of interstellar conquerors, comprised of myriad species and calling themselves the Conquest, make plans against their newest objective: Earth.

Meanwhile in Australia, Wolverine notices the low morale among the men in camp. Taking a cue from Storm's all-ladies trip to LA, Wolverine suggests a trip with the guys to town. Shortly after arriving in Sydney, Wolverine's group, comprised of Colossus, Longshot, Havok and himself, witnesses the arrival of the invading Conquest. The reactions of the citizens of Sydney confuse the Conquest causing their leadership to decide to cut their loses and activate a bomb of unimaginable devastation. A half inebriated Havok destroys the command ship before the bomb is activated, saving the day and stranding the strike force members of Conquest.

Meanwhile, in the highlands of Kentucky, Tessa of the Hellfire Club is shown a devastated installation that once imprisoned the now free Donald Pierce, the former White King.

Return in Savage Land

They return a while later to the mansion and Charles Xavier weeps, as he realizes not all his X-Men have made their way home safely.

As the remaining X-Men bury their recently deceased teammate Storm, the base’s computer receives a call.

The call is from the missing Lorna Dane, (Polaris), asking for help. The X-Men investigate the call, leading them to Punta Arenas, Chile. Upon arrival, the X-Men witness Polaris being kidnapped by warriors from the Savage Land, led by Zaladane and her Savage Land Mutates. Reaching a stalemate, the X-Men offer to allow Zaladane's forces to withdraw with their captive, if only the innocent people of Punta Arenas are left alone. Zaladane accepts and she and her forces leave, failing to notice that one soldier in her army is none other than the disguised Havok.

Zaladane and her forces return to Antarctica and their towered fortress in the Savage Land. Havok reveals himself only to be captured. Bound and drugged to prevent him from using his powers, he is forced to watch as Zaladane steals the powers of Polaris. Dazzler, Colossus, and Psylocke arrive on the scene and are immediately ambushed by the Savage Land Mutates. After the X-Men are captured, they are brought before Zaladane. Polaris, to everyone's surprise, begins to manifest new powers of strength and invulnerability. Swiftly, she frees the rest of the X-Men and other prisoners who revolt against Zaladane. With the tower in flames, the X-Men flee the fortress in a sky sled, only to realize that Zaladane is still alive and has activated the tower's defensive shields.

Before the X-Men can decide their next move, they are teleported back to their base in Australia by Gateway, much to the concern of Psylocke who experienced the X-Men’s death in a precognitive vision.

Elsewhere in Antarctica, the X-Men find themselves in the Savage Land, having tunneled their way to freedom. After Banshee is rescued from a huge pterosaur, they make their way to a nearby village to rest. Later, whilst shaving, Cyclops realizes his connection to Corsair, something that hadn’t really crossed his mind before. Ororo speaks with him about sharing her grief over Jean’s death but Scott finds that, strangely, he has none to give. Two girls take Colossus away to a secluded island but Wolverine declines his invitation to join them. He is cut up about Jean, the first woman he’s really cared for. Ororo, meanwhile, goes for a swim but, as she relaxes, Karl Lykos grabs her and siphons the energy from her, transforming himself into one of the X-Men’s most dangerous foes.

Karl Lykos has siphoned Storm’s energy and become Sauron. The X-Men challenge him but Wolverine’s impulsiveness allows him to be used as a pawn against his teammates. Cyclops is forced to take Wolverine down, and both he and Banshee force Sauron to flee. However, the pterosaur soon finds Colossus and tries to take his energy instead. Unfortunately, the energy backlash proves too much and he reverts to his human form. Wolverine wants to do nasty things to him, but Ka-Zar arrives and manages to calm the situation down. Later, Lykos explains how he survived their last encounter and also how a priestess called Zaladane had resurrected the sun god, Garokk. Ka-Zar then explains how they tried to take Garokk down but proved unsuccessful. Wolverine and Banshee are all for helping in the struggle but Cyclops points out that Magneto is possibly still at large, and could target Professor Xavier next. Ka-Zar understands his predicament and leads the team to the Savage Land’s tunnel exit. However, there they encounter snow, which, as Ka-Zar points out, could mean death for the Savage Land.

Ka-Zar leads the X-Men to Garokk’s City of the Sun God, which is inadvertently affecting the ecological balance of the Savage Land. They are attacked by airborne warriors. Cyclops, Colossus, Banshee and Ka-Zar are taken captive. Wolverine leads a rescue party to the city and they infiltrate the recently created structure, discovering their friends being held in the center of a huge arena. Colossus is consumed by flames, but remains defiant in the face of death. Nightcrawler suddenly teleports next to Cyclops and frees Colossus. Soon the whole team acts like one and free one another whilst Cyclops heads after Garokk, who flees to the roof of the city’s dome. There, the two men battle, but their efforts begin to destroy the fragile city and it starts to collapse. The X-Men and Ka-Zar help evacuate the place, as Cyclops and Garokk find their battle interrupted when the domed roof crumbles. They fall but Banshee saves Cyclops from certain death. Storm attempts to recover Garokk, but her claustrophobia prevents her from reaching him. She emerges from the destruction safely, but all too alone. Later, Ka-Zar and Karl Lykos wish the X-Men well and they depart the Savage Land, only to be caught up in a fearsome gale.

One day outside the School for Gifted Youngsters, the man, Warhawk, is on a mission and goes to work on the mansion’s computers, realigning their programming. He suddenly reels in pain, as a mysterious man he calls the master mentally attacks him. He warns Warhawk that if he doesn’t serve him well, he’ll pay with his life. Before long, the remaining X-Men head inside and Warhawk knocks out both Jean and Professor Xavier too. The other X-Men have a Danger Room workout, but Warhawk traps them inside and uses the room against them. They work well together but are running out of time. Cyclops asks Nightcrawler to teleport Wolverine outside to shut the program down. Wolverine manages to scrap the system but Warhawk fights him and it takes the rest of the team to put him down for the count. The police take him away, as Jean informs the team that she’ll not be staying with them after all.

Meanwhile in the mansion, Lilandra tries to cheer up Charles, but he has a lot of thinking to do. He recalls how he came to form the X-Men in the first place. Charles is reminiscing the past. After losing his first love, Moira MacTaggert, he bummed around the Mediterranean before ending up in Cairo. There, he met a young pickpocket, before encountering another telepath for the first time.

This was Amahl Farouk also known as Shadow King; a malevolent entity that Charles immediately knew was trouble. They fought on the Astral Plane as their physical bodies sat in a Cairo bar. Charles struggled against his powerful opponent, but finally focused all his energies in a single blow to Farouk’s brain. In the physical world, Farouk collapsed and Xavier left; now knowing how truly deadly mutant powers could be in the wrong hands. His new aim led him to form the X-Men, to protect humanity from creatures like Farouk. Lilandra says that there is nothing left for him on Earth and asks Charles to accompany her back home. Charles finds himself agreeing with her.

Still Wolverine, beaten and bruised, hangs from a wooden X outside the X-Men's base camp. Donald Pierce, Wolverine's captor, continues to torment the shackled Wolverine, who begins to hallucinate. In his delusions, in actuality one of Gateway's Dreamtimes, Wolverine witnesses the past. He watches the X-Men return from their trip to the Savage Land. Next he is visited by phantoms of various acquaintances, both friends and foes. He sees his own return to town, and his subsequent capture. Again, his vision returns to arrival of the four X-Men from the Savage Land.

As the Reavers approach the X-Men's position to attack, Psylocke opens the Siege Perilous and telepathically cajoles the X-Men to enter. Arriving too late, Pierce is furious at the loss of his prey. Back to reality and the present, the town comes under the fury of a powerful storm that seems to be encircling the whole globe. While the Reavers wait out the tempest inside, Jubilee summons the courage to approach Wolverine. To her surprise, Wolverine frees himself from his X-shaped crucifix. Lacking the strength to even stand, Wolverine asks the young Jubilee for help.

After Rachel was rescued, the five adventurers formed the British mutant team Excalibur.

The Reavers find Wolverine missing from his crucifix and search the base for him. Jubilee helps Wolverine recover, and then they attempt to escape the complex before being found by Donald Pierce’s cyborg hounds.

Lorna Dane is rescued by the Banshee and taken to Muir Island, her body keeps on growing and she also possesses super-strength now.
