Evolution Begins

Charles Xavier is himself a superhuman mutant who, as a young man, used his telepathic powers to battle various menaces. One of the first enemies is Shadow King when they stayed in Israel with his old friend Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, later known as Magneto. After being crippled in an encounter with the alien Lucifer, Xavier led a reclusive life as an academic and a scientific researcher. He was contacted by his old sweetheart Dr. Moira MacTaggert to help Jean Grey, who was then still a child, and was unable to control her newly emerged mutant telepathic abilities properly. Xavier used his own psychic abilities to erect psionic blocks in Grey's mind to prevent her from using her telepathic powers until she was mature enough to deal with them. Over the following years Xavier worked with Grey to develop her mutant telekinetic abilities.

Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X) he is one of the most powerful mutants in the world due to the vast psionic and telepathic powers at his disposal. These powers enable him to read, control, and influence human minds and cast illusions. He can also detect the presence of mutants. The degree to which Xavier can utilize these abilities is truly astonishing, had he desired to do so he could probably take over the world. Fortunately, Xavier is man of moral compunction beyond reproach and would never use his abilities to encroach upon the liberties of his fellow men. Aside from his mutation, Xavier is an extraordinary genius. He is considered the leading authority on genetics, mutation, and psionic powers, with considerable expertise in other life sciences. He is also highly talented in devising equipment for utilizing and enhancing psionic powers.

Dr. Moira MacTaggert, she is a geneticist and a long time friend of Charles Xavier since college. She is a mother of mutant Proteus

Xavier expected that normal human beings would eventually come to fear and persecute the growing number of superhuman mutants. Xavier learned from news reports of an adolescent mutant who nearly became the victim of mod violence after he publicly displayed his superhuman power. Fred Duncan, an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was investigating this mutant. Xavier contacted Duncan and told him of his intention to find young superhuman mutants and train them in the uses of their power for the benefit of humanity. Duncan and Xavier agreed to cooperate with each other.
